I can get my hands on a new Samsung monitor 226BW for a good price. It's a 22' wide LCD/TFT monitor, 5 ms response time, 0.282 mm, 1680x1054 resolution, 280 cd/m2.
I was wondering if anybody is using this monitor for photo editing and how do you find it? I would use it for my work as well (nothing to do with photos) but in my free time I'd like to do some PP in my photos in Photoshop - all the posted threads of my photos on Camel were done on my laptop and now I want to get myself a monitor which will be connected to the laptop. Any opinion, suggestion, shared experience would be kindly appreciated. Regards PS: SORRY ABOUT THE COLOR AND THANKS TO JFRANCHO FOR THE WARNING __________________

Thanks, it looks fine in both themes now.
![]() I'd say, go for it, if its in your budget. Obviously, there are more task specific displays for photo editing, but they are very pricey ($600+). The main thing to do is to extract all you can get out of an LCD by profiling it with one of the available hardware/software bundles. I use a Spyder2 Pro, but the other brands work well, too. |

Hey there.. I'm about to pull the plug on the same monitor but in the 20 " version.. sure, it won't be great for professional image folks - that much is obvious.. but I've been using a 17" samsung monitor for a few years now to do all my photo editing and work and it has been just fine. BTW: the 20" version is about $60 cheaper and uses the same resolution as the 22".. you won't gain much by moving to the 22" vs the 20" except an uprez of fonts which may causing some minor distorting. If you don't need the 22 for moving watching.. I'd go with the 20" and save some $$. Good luck!

I've been using a different 22" wide screen LCD. I have to say, I love it. Especially the wide aspect ratio; much better in Photoshop. You have plenty of room in the palette well to dock things you don't use all the time and open up more real estate in your screen.
When you use other apps, though - especially word processing and web browsers - things seem to work out better if you don't have the window maximized. |

Hey Forrest
That was exactly my thinking - more real estate for docking all the things and on the other side I do translations of manuals I can have 2 A4 pages open next to each other. I must just make the decision which one to get. The most easy to get here are Samsung, BenQ, HP and I'm still finding out about Asus and Dell. |

Fymoh,
I use the Samsung SyncMaster 225bw 22" monitor as my main workstation display. I'm viewing the page through it right now. I absolutely LOVE this display. After attending SSU in Chicago a few years ago, I was afraid to use LCD's in the studio, but the advantages were just too good to pass up. I think I paid about $450-$500 for it last fall. |

Thanks Mark for your input. I'll probably go for that one, because I can get it for a dealer's price through my wife's company. I'm just doing some research on other brands as well.
How do you find it for photo editing and is it easy to calibrate? Regards Fredy |

I would avoid 22" monitors. There are a lot on the market now, and they're inexpensive, but they're not as large as the 22" sounds because of the wide aspect ratio. The 21-inch standard aspect ratio monitors are better for photo editing and anything else, IMO.
If you must go wide, consider no less than a 24". |

I read alot about the 24" Samsung 245T but what about the Samsung 245B? The 245T runs about $600 vs the 245B which is now less than $400. Anyone use a 245B?
