Default The ideal photo-editing computer

I'll likely be buying a new PC soon, to be used almost solely for photo editing. What specs do I want? Where should I place the emphases? Memory? Graphics? Processor?

MAC

If I was just gonna use it for photo editing, I'd go the MAC route.

A good screen and lots of ram. I currently use a 24" iMac and love it for photo editing. Will be even better once CS3 comes along in Universal Binary format. If you already have an investment in PC software then just select a good panel and build around that. Any current PC with core2duo will work well and you should be impressed with the near silence of many PCs using this as part of their chipset (another significant factor for me at least - I hate whiny computers). Add in 2GB minimum of RAM and you're done.

What's the budget? Dream machine or are you making compromises along the way?

Otherwise, I'm with Paul on this one.

I've only seen a few systems need more than 2 Gb and they were loading big, big files (200+Mb) in CS2. Personally, I wouldn't bother with more than 2.
