I definitely see solid state as the next big thing in storage. Seems much more stable.

I saw this on CNet a few weeks ago. Interesting stuff. Pricey right now but, heck, I remember paying $3,000 for a computer that my PDA could beat today!

Well also means less wear and tear and absolute no moving part.
I recall reading about one artist and song writer I think the name was Paul ?
he was in to electronic thing as he did say there is a need to reduce the amount of moving parts.
think about CD & DVD they too will become absolute as the flash card and other type of formats of non moving parts will be here to stay.
if I can dig up the name of the person Ill post it up again.
In the mean time technolgy are moving faster than ever before.
as we now have the resource and information to make it work.
Alas also the great minds that forsee the path.
Like Bill Gate he stared out with ms-dos the reason his empire has grown as he hired the best people to help him build his company. that see his dream come true He also paid them well.
sorry about Rambling

Since we are now up to Terabyte hard drives for about the same price as the 32GB flash drive I think it will be a long time before we see solid state is the primary storage mechansm. The cost is still much heigher and they are not as stable. All flash memory is rated for a maximum number for read/write operations before they begin to fail. There are some other interesting uses with technologies like Ready Drive that will allow Vista to use the flash memory for sleep operations and even operate in a low power mode using flash while on battery.
