Interesting stuff. Personally, I only use removable media as a short term, "stopgap" backup. For instance, I'll make a DVD-R of images from a remote shoot on my laptop, therefore I have the cards, the laptop, and the DVDs in case something fails. For archival, I prefer redundant HDDs in multiple locations.
