Selective color

Hi All,

I have seen quite a few pics around that have this selective color.....eg black and white photo then certain parts of the pic that is in color. Could anyone tell me what software it is done with and briefly how.

I use Photoshop. Simplest method: Add a saturation adjustment layer, desaturate, and paint black in the adjustment layer mask over the parts you want to colorize. Paint with black at a lower brush opacity and go over it in several passes to have more control over the amount of saturation.

You can also do your favorite B/W conversion, on a duplicated layer, then merge all but the original; mask, etc. Or, add a solid color adjustment layer, fill with black; mask, etc.
