Default Photoshop Elements 3.0 for backup...

I'm using PE3 for organizing, editing and backing-up. I did my first major full back-up using PE3 about 3 weeks ago. Until then, I had just been making copies of my memory cards. That full back-up took 10 CD-R's. Today I did an incremental back-up, which is just suppossed to copy everything that has changed/been added since the last one. I expected it to be smaller than 10 discs, but it was 12! I'm not sure I understand why this "incremental" back-up was even larger than the first one! Any ideas or explainations??

Thanks!

Elaine

Have a look on the Adobe website - there's an excellent forum there just for Elements 3.
I like 3, but don't use it for back at all. I prefer to copy across my directory structure so it's identical to my hard drive.

BH, I don't see the forum. Do you have a link?

Will look for it - I know it exists because I have had occasional emails from them. H.

Thanks for the tip, Howard! I was wondering about something you said..."I prefer to copy across my directory structure so it's identical to my hard drive." Could you explain this further? Is there a reason I should NOT be backing up with Elements? I was under the impression that the catalog structure I am backing up IS identical to what's on the hard drive. I must be missing something here...

Thanks!

Elaine

I file all my photos under "My Pictures" in a directory named by date and content (as much as possible)
e.g.
2005-08-13 Normandy Monday
2005-08-14 Normandy tuesday
.....
2005-09-16 Daniel Rose School

These I copy to
a) DVD RW at regular intervals
b) A stand-alone hard drive

That way all my back ups are identical. I've never bothered with catalogues and things because I'm too inconsistent over software. In other words, I'm disorganised!!!
I only use Elements organiser / album on my desktop; my laptop it isn't worth it.
I suppose if I was a pro, I'd use pro software for cataloguing so I can do proper IPTC data etc...

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with such a primitive filing system . I have started using the trial of iMatch to see if it helps, but like you things don't stay installed long enough for me to make it worth my while. I did have a multi DLT tape stacker that I archived everything to (there are usually 4 or 5 pc's/macs/servers running at any one time in the house), but it all became too unwieldy. Now just go to DVD like yourself - when I can remember...

Paul - I prefer to say "simple" rather than "primitive"! At least I can - usually - find things!!
Elements organiser doesn't like it if you delete a file outside of Elements. But that's probably the same for most organisers!

while i do not do backups in elements 3 i had the same issue. my fix was to get a dvd burner. now if you are using the term cd for dvd, then i do my backup 2 microdies to a dvd. i have 2 gig md's so the math is easy.
