You can get cheaper or more expensive versions depending on the CPU speed selected.

They seem very keenly priced for an Apple product. At the keynote speech Mr. Jobs was showing the above configured Mac Pro and an equivalent Dell Xeon workstation. Apparently the Dell cost around $1000 more.

Our marketing department just bought 5 new G5s with the old Motorola processors without consulting IT first. WHAT were they thinking

I'm not going to switch over because all my stuff is Windows but I can still respect that Apple has decided to go with some hardware that finally puts it in the same league as the rest of the enterrprise world. I didn't particular respect Apples initial G5 marketing that said the "G5(with the Motoralas) were the FASTEST 'PCs' in the world. But in small print don't compare it to the dual core AMDs and Xeons because they are 'workstations'." Bah!! That was hilarious.
