I've been a lurker here for some time. This is my first post in this forum. Thought you might find this interesting.
Backpacking recently, I slipped at a stream crossing and fell face first into the water. It was shallow, and I quickly got back on my feet. Much to my chagrin, my G9 (which was in a hip pocket on my pack) was soaked. I quickly dried it off, removed the battery and SD card, and carried it out in the open air. But, it refused to work. When I got home, I put it in a slightly warm oven for about 20 minutes. The camera could power up, but then do all sorts of wild switching at random between functions. No image was available on the screen and the shutter wouldn't operate. I took the battery out with the lens fully extended and put it in a dresser drawer, assuming the camera was ruined. Three weeks later, as I was contemplating whether to go buy a G10, I decided to take another look at the camera. Put the battery in and it powered up immediately. Went to the menu and chose "reset" and the camera appears to be working fine. I've taken a couple of pictures with it and everything seems OK. So, I'll hold off on the G10 purchase for awhile and see what happens. I'm curious if others have had similar situations. I have a feeling I was incredibly lucky.. __________________

I dropped my mobile phone into the Atlantic Ocean on the Cap Verde islands. It fell to the bottom at 2 feet deep. Luckily it was switched off at the time. I picked it up, dried the outside off, opened the phone's innards, took it apart in main sections, rinsed them vigorously under a fresh water tap (to get rid of the corroding salt), and let it all dry in the air for 3 days. Then I put the phone back together again and switched it on.
It worked... __________________
