Wow Doug,
those are some kinda hills there ![]() and the clouds really enhance the jagged peaks of the Tetons... .... The Sierra Club really put the Grand Tetons on the map for photgraphers...and I'd expect that there's been many a roll of film shot there. thanks for posting this photo... I've yet to see this spot for myself. charlie |

I'd say Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World) in Orlando, FL has got to be in the top 5. Considering the thousands of people that go by it every day, each needing their picture in front of the Castle, plus the Disney photographers taking the photos of half of the people that go by it -- it's photographed A LOT. New York sites might be high in the list, but the disadvantage they have is that they have too many locals that just go by them as everyday objects to be ignored. Cinderella Castle would be closer to 95% tourists from all over the world.
I agree with Niagara Falls being pretty high up there. Along with Eiffel Tower and Old Faithful. |

Well of course Disney Land/World... completely forgot about them.
...and that view of the castle, it's almost a trade mark for Disney. I visited your gallery at Deviant Art... You've got a lot of provokative photos there. Even your screen saver of the dome was taken in a different angle from everyone shoots it. Nice work. If you're into trivia, check this. When Walt Disney opened up Disney Land he had exhuasted all his funds and had nothing left for hiring a well known MC for the all important Grand Openig of Disney Land. So Art Linkletter the TV star did it for no money,.. He just asked and got the 'exclusive' rights to sell camera film at Disney Land. I doubt neither had any idea what $$$ that would bring Linkletter. |

Yes, I knew of the Art Linkletter arrangement (who was actually also celebrating his birthday on that day!).
It was only for a small specified amount of time, though. The sponsor has been Kodak at the American parks for quite a while now, but before that, it was GAF (who was the original photographic sponsor at Walt Disney World) and a couple of other companies. And in other photographic connections, a couple of years before Disneyland opened, Sawyers bought the True-Vue company, which had the stereo contract with Disney. So, in one big sweep, Sawyers managed to not only take out the major competition, but they also got a huge contract that has lasted until this day. And, as you may know, GAF later bought out Sawyers. And in an interesting turn of events, GAF is now completely out of the film business. Today, they are a leading roofing company (such a strange, strange turn). |

The eruption of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park gets my vote. I am retired and for the last four years I have been living in the National Parks. There isn't even a close second place in my book. Every 60 to 90 minutes Old Faithful goes off to the clicks of thousands of shutters. An eruption lasts around 5 minutes. Of course there are many photos takes of the spot when it is not erupting.

Don't forget this one. it is considered to be one of the 7 natural wonders of the world right along side Niagra falls.
Maybe this thread would make a great poll since there are so many great places that have been photographed. I know each state has it's own claim to fame. Could be a fun and educating poll. |
