Default Carbon fiber background...

Howdy...been gone a while. Thought maybe I'd come around and drop some photos in, check out the forums again and see what's cookin'. So...here's some shots done on a carbon fiber background. Bought a few rolls of sticky-back carbon fiber, thought it would make a cool background for shots. And since I couldn't decide whether these would go into Still Life or Commercial, I'm putting them in here. If they need to go into Still Life, please move them.

Anyhow...have at it.

I assume that isn't really-truly carbon fiber, but a decorative film? I shot a piece of legit carbon fiber this winter, and found lighting it to be a real challenge.

It has a slight texture to it, but I tried picking apart threads and it didn't pull apart, it seems to be something like vinyl or similar. It looks like carbon fiber though, and that's all that matters to me. Lighting isn't a challenge, I'm only using one flash on-camera, so if anything looks goofy I just move to a different angle or move the head on the flash. So far I've been happy with the results. I purposely bought a non-glossy version too, I knew in my head that a glossy surface would be a bear to shoot.

I shot some carbon fiber car parts once, it was "fun"...

I think a simple subject works best on a busy background and that's why I like your second shot of the knife the best.
