Default Food Photos

Had a little fun with some stuff from around the house...including my lunch!

The squiggly lines in the white, rectangular dish are a bit distracting and not conforming to the other patterns. Really nice pic's! Colors and composition are dead on.

Really like the first two, although I feel that a heavy crop would simplify them a little better...the third one, the DOF should include not only the first corner bite, but whatever is in front of it...it took me a bit to recognize where the focal point was, as there is nothing leading my eye to it...just my thoughts...

I agree with your observation on the squiggly lines in the dish capshook but the shape of the dish is less of a concern because the red stripe dish cloth is also rectangular. Also like I said, this is stuff I had from around the house. Also agree with the DOF on the third one, the foreground salsa should also be in focus. Great comments from you guys, thanks for the input!

One more I did of a Caesar salad.

Bon Appetit!

I meant the squiggly lines didn't match the other lines not the shape of the dish and the other lines....

You can have that shallow depth of field look if you must and still control the plane of focus with a lens such as this 83mm Nikkor Micro which allows tilts, swings and shifts. Nikon | PC-E Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D Manual Focus Lens | 2175 It's cheaper and easier to use than a view camera for your DSLR.

Is that a plastic fork in your Caesar salad ?

The strawberry shots were done with a soft box camera left and white reflector just out of the frame camera right. The Mexican food was natural window light also using white reflectors and the pasta was lit withe a soft box from above, a kicker from behind bounced off white reflectors.
