Man it's hard to light these "suckers".
![]() I basically had a silver bounce umbrella camera left and a snooted light camera right. Then I used a couple small silver reflectors on the table just out of the frame to bounce some highlights onto the candies. Then i bumped the contrast a little in ps. Oh and I used a clear spray enamel on them to make them shiny and more appealing. Any tips from the pros on how to improve the lighting in this kind of shot (or other comments) is most welcome. Thanks! ![]() ![]() __________________

Nice product shot d2
jfrancho - We had these sweets in the UK too, they were called polo's. Mainly mint flavour (which still exist today). Also fruit polo's (as seen in this shot). As far as I know they are called lifesavers as they resemble the shape of a red ring you might throw into the water to save someones life. |

That's what the Wikipedia reports, but I had been told by many doctors that the fruit flavored Lifesavers were originally developed for treating hypoglycemia. In that case, they really are a life saver.

You're a cheeky chappy Mr J Franchoe. That might be what wikipedia suggests but it was my first guess. My second was that the sweet had a hole in the middle and so prevented choking.
There are many sugary sweets around before fruit polos so I doubt they were developed specifically for this.......no cigar here then! ![]() |

The Wiki story might be legit, but then again, a lot of "vices" started as medicinal remedies, like Jagermeister. And oddly enough, many medicines started out as "vices" like Robitussan.

![]() As far as the name... i definitely would have guessed the shape being the reason but i guess the doctor thing wouldn't surprise me. Very interesting. ![]() __________________
