Default Black Chrome and Mirror

Here's a recent shot for a motorcycle barend and mirror product sheet and web-site. There was an interesting combination of surfaces in this shot including a glass mirror, shiny stainless steel fasteners and satin black metal.

Lighting setup was simple with a medium 3'x4' softbox overhead, a small 2'x3' softbox on the left and a white fill card underneath. A grid spot with a magenta gel directed on a black textered foil board created the background color glow. A second white card was positioned to the left of the camera to reflect in the mirrors surface.

Often in this kind of product photography, specular reflections are used to define the shape, form and surface qualities of the product. Controlling and creating those reflections is more effective than trying to eliminate them.

Anyway, thought I'd share this simple commercial shoot.
