Default Pedal (to the metal)

I have started working on a little electronics project hoping to mass-produce the result eventually. First I am trying to find a good angle and lighting for an ad. Right now the pedal is brushed aluminium but the final product will have a coat of paint on it.

a) Which view do you prefer ?
b) Why ?

c) Bonus question: how do you get rid of all this dust ? I wet-wiped the plexiglass, used compressed air, and yet there is still tons of dust that I had to clone.

d) Bonus question 2: how can I give the rubberized panel a more uniform appearance, right now the highlights are uneven.

Well here are a few things you can try.

For the dust, try using Rain X on the glass and then get a small fan to constantly blow air on the set up to keep dust from settling. The Rain X should keep things like dust from sticking to the glass.

For a more uniform black, try an Armor All type product. They make a dull version as well if you don't want it too shiny. Mother's (the car wax people) make a product called Back to Black that does a good job. I apply it to the rubber on my lenses to make them look new(er).

Do as much as you can at capture but realize somethings may just be easier to do in PS.

I prefer the top two POVs because they better describe the shape and dimension of the product.

The lighting is less than effective. You need a fill card or soft box in the front to properly light the front face and a soft box or diffusion frame overhead to properly light the top surface with the rubberized panel.

The specular shadows or reflections on the black plexi are confusing as they give the illusion that the piece is taller than it really is. You could solve that and the dust issue by shooting on a matte black formica instead of plexi. The reflections from the black plexi detract from product in this case.

Thank you photolando & Brooks.

Next setup will be on a matte surface and with softbox overhead. I took a few photos with a fill card in front but it looked too flat to me that way.

Cool! That will be interesting to see the difference between the two shots.
