Max, what are your thoughts on focusing (speed and accuracy) between the 7D and your 1DIII.

Gee, let me guess...Highly Recommended?

And no it has nothing to do with it being a Canon. It has more to do with it being a DPReview review. Find a camera review that didn't make a Recommended or Highly Recommended on there. That stamp of approval means diddly. Every camera today has good and bad points and only those money to burn should incrementally upgrade every time.

And it is laughable to even think about comparing the 7D to a 1DIII...

...I didn't either, but from an afternoon side-by-side 7D/5D2/1D3, the 1D3 is faster and IMO more accurate in AF, speedwise 7D is second, accuracy-wise the 5D2 came second, but that has a lot to do with me not being experienced with the 7D, if I shot it longer/more, I think accuracy will be equal between 5D2 and 7D...

...just *my* €0.00002...

The Sigma DP2 was rated "above average," so it does happen...just not very often. In fact, here is a list of reviews sorted by the rating.

I messed around with my buddy's 5DII the other day and have to say that center point accuracy is almost the same with 7D. 7D being slightly faster but that's my limited experience with the 5D. Off center, the 7D wins by a mile.
Also AI Servo seems more accurate on the 7D as well.

I think this adds up to: 1D3 fastest and most accurate, 7D second in speed, 7D and 5D2 accuracy almost equal if the shooter is experienced on both cameras, with a slight edge in center point accuracy for the 5D2 and a slight edge in off center points accuracy and AI Servo for the 7D

...€0.02...

Kindest regards!

The 7D, I read in the manual, has a new option to set AF to spot focus which covers an even smaller area than a normal AF point. Has anyone tested that yet?
