Default Question to 7D users (Wireless flash)
Can the 7D's wireless flash unit actually trigger another external speedlight without firing the built-in flash at the same time?

I just downloaded the manual and from what I understand I would say yes but maybe somebody could confirm that? This is a feature I really really miss in the 5DII.

I don't have the 7D, but my understanding is that it has to flash to fire the external speedlites, but that it is just the pre-flash and doesn't affect the exposure. Hopefully someone else can verify as well.

Yes, but it will fire a preflash to meter and actuate the slave flashes

IMO: yes, as that can be set independent on the flashunit(s), and works with the 580exII as Master or the ST-E2 as Master as well
