Default 7d AF issues?

I normally read the dpreview forums and have seen a LOT of complaints there about AF issues with the 7d. I am planning on buying this camera late this year, so obviously reading all those posts have discouraged me just a bit. I'd like to ask the opinion of this forum if these issues truly exist. What kinds of manual adjustment are actually necessary for the camera?

You problem is highlighted above. If you read those forums, you would never buy anything ever!

That's not an AF issue.
Anyway I love mine.
I know what each AF mode can and can't do so I have no problems nailing focus and having properly focussed shots. Now I just need some better glass.

I know what I want but I'm trying to figure out what I need.
May end up with a 35mm f/2, Siggy 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/2 or may go the zoom route and get the 24-105mm f/4 and decide which prime I would use the most.

I guess I will wait for this new fix to go through and then see whether people report AF issues being fixed.

we still do not know what you shoot

...but that is one fine fast prime allround/portrait kit...

From first looks you miss something truly wide (35mm being FoV 57mm, 24mm being FoV 38mm...) in both setups

Do you mind sharing your AF techniques with the different modes when shooting individuals, group shots, ect. Can't seem to get good results unles I use center point and reposition for individuals. Group shots seem to be blurry when using zone. Cant get used to the focus points not staying red to confirm focus until the shot is taken.

Zone focus only focusses on the closest object so it would most likely focus on noses and not eyes.
You need 19 point auto with single shot at f8 or tighter to be safe.

Love Canon. I can only offer that I was standing next to a customer in my local professional camera store who was returning a 7D two days after purchase because it would not auto focus on any subject. The sales attendandents could not get it to focus either even after swithching to a different cannon lense and a non cannon EF lense. They worked on it for probably an hour. No one could figure out what was wrong. The replaced the camera for him. Not sure if this has anything to do with your issue or not.

There has been some reported issues and Canon has been fixing them with some kind of calibration. There are a few threads about this in DPR.

For posed stuff, I use center point only with the back button the recompose.
