Default Canon 28mm f/2.8 vs 28mm f/1.8

I really like my Canon 35mm f/2.0 lens, and I'm considering expanding my lens kit with a 28mm prime. I don't know which way to go, though--the 28mm f/2.8 or the 28mm f/1.8? I'd appreciate hearing any thoughts on or seeing images taken with either lens.

tests:
EF28F1.8 USM
EF28F2.8

thoughts:

Why 28 ? awful close to 35, I would vote for the EF24mmF2.8

The 28F1.8USM is build much like the 50mmF1.4, the 28F2.8 (and the 24F2.8 for that matter) resembles the build of the 35F2.0 (or the 50F1.8 Mark *I*)

Image quality of both is reasonable for the money, corner sharpness and flare/CA can be issues with both, depending on how open you want to shoot them...

...just *my* €0.02 worth...

Kindest regards!

Hmm. I really prefer to get lenses faster than f/2.8 in short primes, if I can. Also, wouldn't 24mm introduce a good bit of barrel distortion? Maybe I should just stick with the 35.

I prefer faster-than-F2.8 in long primes too

No way.

I think Canon needs to start putting IS in all its lenses, by the way, not just the longer ones.

you can look into the original size pictures photo by the 2 lens, review the picture details, then you will know which is better to buy.

...from what I know from real-world users and this test , the EF20mmF2.8 isn't among Canon's better lenses, the EF24mmF2.8 is a lot better, optically...

@Max: Good to know.

I had the 28 f/1.8 but sold it as I didn't use it enough - I've read the 2.8 is optically better (as is the 35mm).

F 2.8; the only thing will you get with the 1.4 is more light at the expense of loss of sharpness, more vignetting and less $ in your pocket.

I have the 28mm F2.8 and it's the one Canon lens that doesn't really impress me. Certainly my 24-105L is significantly sharper at the same focal length right across the aperture range. Leaving questions of sharpness to one side though, I've never been that enamoured with 28mm as a focal length and find 24mm much more interesting.
