I have a local person that will trade me their 50mm f/1.4 for my 100mm f/2 ... I do already have the 50mm f/1.8...
Does anyone know if the hood from the 100mm will fit the 50mm f/1.4? __________________

I'm curious why you would want to make a trade like that, considering you already have a 50 f1.8? You aren't gaining much, and you would be giving up a great lens in the 100 f2.

Well I am asking myself that also! I mainly shoot indoors and the 100mm is too long for that. However I do have some outdoor shoots coming up and I wonder if it will be silly to try and do those with the 50mm.
I keep reading that the 50 1.4 focuses faster and has a nicer bokeh. I am not sure if I really want to trade the 100 for another 50 or if I want to hold out and buy the 50 1.4 and have the 50 and the 100 in my bag and work on getting a zoom.... |

I would say keep what you have and if you really, really, need to change to a 50 1.4 in the future, then do that. Once you let go of the 100, you'll be kicking yourself in the butt for doing so.

I am going to play with the 100 this weekend in Wisconsin and see if that seals it staying in my bag

Which do you use more - your 100mm or your 50mm?
Are you happy with the build of the 50 f/1.8? I don't have the 100mm but I do the 85mm - I find I use the 50mm more than the 85mm (on a crop camera). I used to have the 50 /1.8 but never felt comfortable with it's cheap feel. I would likely take the deal and sell the 50 f/1.8... But you have to answer the top two questions for yourself. |

I use the 50mm all the time... however I will be shooting outdoors this weekend so I will see how the 100mm vs the 50mm goes in that situation.
I am not 100% happy with the 50 1.8 BUT i need to really run it and give it a good try. I am charging my battery now ( I need another battery too lol) and I am going to play with the lens some more. It didnt seem so sharp at 1.8 but seemed noce and sharp at 2.5... then my battery died! |

Alison,
You didn't ask, but I use sterlingtek batteries in my 30D and 50D. They work as good as the original Canon batteries, but only cost about $12. As for the trade, do the 100 f/2 and 50 f/1.4 cost about the same. If so, then it would be a fair trade. If it is a good trade for you is a question that only YOU can answer. __________________
