Default Second curtain

ok, so i wanted to play around with the second curtain shutter thing where you can take a pic and have it flash at the end. I cant figure it out. I know it is going to be something stupid simple and i will have to endure riducule for not knowing but i cant seem to get it to work.
Any help out there?

On the 430EX, the same button that sets high speed sync cycles from HS sync to 2nd curtain, back to normal. As Max said, it's in the menu for the onboard flash.

Max, Is that true if you make the setting on the flash as well, or does the flash override the camera mode?

I had a play with the 40D and 580EX last week before seeing this thread and I found the second curtain option greyed out. It is my understanding that the option will be enabled if the 580EX II is connected. I had to set second curtain on the flash unit itself.
The flash properties of the newer 580EX II can be controlled by the newer cameras that have Digic III.

External flash settings (on a Canon EX flash) ALWAYS override the settings you can make on-camera!

O/T question to danster: I see you have (& use ?) both the 24-70F2.8L and the 24-105F4L IS, could you elaborate on when you (prefer to) use which one ?

Thanks in advance!

Kindest regards!

Hi Max,
I initially bought the 24-105 as it was more affordable than the 24-70. I think most of us who are keen on photography have always craved a fast lens so I gave in to temptation and bought the 24-70 late last year. It is definitely one of the sharpest lens I've ever used and almost never leaves my camera.
I normally use the 24-105 whenever the shutter speed slips below 1/15, there are alot of threads that compare these two lenses with users saying both lenses are equally sharp. IMHO I think the 24-70 is a little sharper. Lately I've been taking more portraits and the bokeh from the 24-70 is much more pleasant than the 24-105.

I know both lenses like the back of my hand, I have a 24-70 (again), and have taken many shots with various 24-105's while testing.

I asked danster, because although many people have the one or the other, or have upgraded from one to the other (for more light -> 24-70, or for more reach ->24-105), you do not find many people that have both at the same time that can make 1 to 1 comparisons and can give you reasoning why sometimes they take the F2.8, and other times the F4IS.

But thanks for the links, I am sure someone is going to appreciate them

I for some reason am not too fond of PopPhoto, and find the tests on The-Digital-Picture.com more substantial
