Ok right now im shooting with the basic 300D *basic digital rebel*
Now my friend that got me into photography is getting out, he shoots with a Canon Rebel Xt, he rarely uses it, and its in really great condition. I think i remember him saying he'll let it go for $350, full body and kit lens. I think these are around 8mp, but so is the 30D i believe. What is the main difference, i think the 30D body goes for a bit more than 350.....the only thing i really dont like about the newer cameras (xt-xti) is the tiny size of them. Questions Whats a good ballpark range for selling my 300D Is a Rebel Xt good for 350 used, or should i just get a 30D body. I got a month to think about this, he's out of town. So...any advice guys n gals? __________________

I have a 300D and a 30D and offer the opinion that the 30D is worth several times the older model which suffered from some poorly selected hampered features. The 350D is in the middle and still much better than the 300D so the question would be how much more the 30D will cost you and whether you feel the need for the better build and convenient rear dial control of the 30D. I have no idea about the used market since I kept the old camera as a backup but I'd probably feel lucky to get $250 for a 300D.

You may also want to shop for a 20D. Many people who had the 20D bypassed the 30D (in favor for the 40D) as they said it didn't offer much improvements. A good 20D and be found pretty reasonably priced.
I had a 30D and sold all my EF-S hardware to finance getting a 5D. In hindsight I do (at times) need a second body and shouldn't have sold my 30D body. I found a 20D body for $400 and have no regrets. |

Here's my point of view: I had the 300 for about 1 1/2 years and loved it. Then i got more serious about photography and wanted the faster frames per second and the extra pixels so I bought the 350 used on another forum. Then I figured a way to get a brand new 30D when they had double and triple rebates. I think this was around the end of 2006. When I got the 30D I couldn't believe what a big difference there was from the 300/350. Especially the wheel on the back of the camera. It makes adjusting the camera and viewing pictures sooo much easier.
My two cents is skip the 350 and go to the 30D. It is going for about 600-625 on most of the forums body only. I just bought a 40D (with a promise to my wife that I will sell the 30D right after our summer vacation) so I have been watching the used market pretty close lately. |

I bought the 350D as a second camera to use with my 10D. I have never really liked using the 350D. The images are fine but, I don't like the controls, viewfinder and the size of the camera (although I have a battery grip to bulk up the size).
I absolutely LOVE the 30D which is available for $640 a a refurb from Adorama. My 30D is a refurb and I have been shooting with it for a year now with absolutely no problems. By-the-way: I had to send boththe 10D and 350D (which were purchased new) back to the Canon Service Center within the first 90 days I had them. By the way STOPH: if you can swing it fiscally, keep both cameras. The make a dandy two camera setup. |

I went from the 300D to the 30D. Great decision, IMO. The ergonomics of the 30D and the ISO 3200, spot meter, and 5fps over the 350D are just a few the improvements, unless you just prefer a smaller body (the 30D and 300D are about the same size, but the 350D is smaller).
