I agree on both counts. I've never actually used a camera with auto sensor cleaning, however.

I have used two for almost a year now (40D, 1D3 ), the system makes *me* happy...

...I have only had to clean the 1D3 'manually' once...

...YMMV, but this is €0.02 of me ...

Kindest regards!

Me too...

I'm looking to upgrade my 20D to either a 5Dii or a 50D (therefore having a 5D/5Dii or a 5D/50D combo). The 5D produces beautiful images - any idea if the 5Dii will be better in the ISO 100 to 800 range? I'm guessing not significantly... 50D is more suitable for sports than the 5Ds...

I'm shooting as a hobby so money is important. So what are others ideas?

1) Keep what I've got: 5D / 20D
2) Upgrade to 50D: 5D / 50D
3) Upgrade to 5Dii: 5D / 5Dii

Cheers!

As inferred above it looks like what I want but I'd have preferred it if Canon had expended a little more effort on weather sealing. I'll wait until all the hype has died down and see if it is really the camera it appears to be; otherwise I'll settle for a 1Ds III.

I won't upgrade my 5D as I don't need any filming an the other improvements are not worth the money for my kind of shooting style.

My 20D is just repaired (lame shutterbutton), but a 50D will be nice.

Main focus for me is on lenses, but sometimes I get scared: will Canon change lensmounts in the near future because of the improvements needed for digital camera's?

Vendor lockin is never nice, but if you want quality you need to do it .

Interesting... I'll have to give that some thought...

I think I'm looking to trade off the higher frame rate (nice but don't use too often) against the high ISO ability (again nice but don't use too often).

SD, the ultimate combo will be 50D+5DII, obviously. You could sell both of your current cameras and buy a 50D when it comes out, then wait for the 5DII price to drop later (Christmas time/early 2009?) and grab one.

Totally agree but add in the divorce and it's a pretty expensive combo...

I'm thinking I'll pick up a 50D when it comes out and wait a year for the 5Dii... Ending up with the 50D/5Dii combo.

I think he meant he would have a divorce if he bought two new cameras. If not, apologies.

Hope you are right, Steve. SD said "add in the divorce", not a divorce.

Best wishes to SD, regardless

Yes, some improvements but not revolutionary or evolutionary. We already have cameras with 21 megapixels soon to be eclipsed by the end of September. I still see the new 5D MKII with just an slightly improved autofocus system , with a depth of field button in the left side that cannot be easily operated when using the camera with a telephoto lens, and no dedicated button that can be programmed to lift the mirror by just one touch. And no OLED screen that according to Chuch Westfall was coming. If the above would have been included, it would have been a great leap forward; what we got way just another slow pace teaser.

Yes, sorry, better clarify - no plans for divorce... Not until I put a deposit on a 5Dii...

The big question Squirreldip is... if there is a divorce when getting the 5DII and the 50D at the same time, which camera does SHE get?
