I knew this would spark new feelings amongst us, Canonites. After Nikon kicking Canon's teeth in this past Spring...I'm glad I held off on the 1D3, I too am interested in this camera, but will now also wait and see what the next 1D would look like.

Well lets see...Canon was the first company to even think about offering a full frame digital at an affordable price. Nikon didnt even have a full frame until very recently and dont even make their own sensors, Sony makes them. Canon beats Nikon in both image quality and lenses, the TWO MOST IMPORTANT parts of the final product. Nikon needs to load their cameras up with things that really dont make for a better final products hoping people will be amazed by features instead of image quality and buy their product. Sorry, Canon still wins.

As neither a Canon nor Nikon user, I'd like to say that I think the 5D MKII is a good upgrade from the 5D. Not a great upgrade, but that is the Canon way as we all know. I'm curious about any new Nikon FF cameras due to be announced either prior or during Photokina. Maybe the fabled 24mp D3x ? I like the 'photographer' features that Nikon brought to the D3 and nearly completely carried over to the D700. I think things like AF, flash capability, rugged build quality are well worth having, just as much as moving from 12mp to 20+mp.

Sounds to me like a Canon press release. So the new Sony 24mp FF camera isn't better than Canon? It has more pixels AND the sensor is made by the same company hocking the camera. Ohh, but they don't have the lenses Canon has.

Speaking of that, how are judging that Canon beats Nikon in image quality and lenses? In total number of lenses? In primes? What? Because there are a LOT of Nikon folks who LOVE the quality they get form their Nikon lenses and do NOT think Canon can touch them.

Nikon loads their camera with things that really don't make for a better final products hoping people will buy them? Like HD movie mode that Canon just shoved in the 5D MkII? How about FPS? Isn't that important? Why doesn't the new 5D MkII do more of them? Don't say it is because the sensor has all those MP's and it can't pump all that data...because the Sony 24mp one will do more than 5 fps. And the Sony has IS built in the body. That should be a feature people want. But Canon folks may want to spend more on a lens to get it, right?

All the Canon hob-nobbers need to talk about their nice new cameras and quite comparing them to others. Same with Nikon and so on. because really, they ALL stink at something. The new 5D MkII is NOT the best camera at everything. It fails in a lot of categories. It may be good, or it may be great, but you can bet your paycheck some good with a Nikon D200 is going to take a BETTER image than you did with your 5DMkII.

I'm willing to challenge a d200 user in a gauntlet of test. I am SO not a fan of ccd sensors.

Looks like a stop gap camera to me. Slap in a new sensor and processor. Nothing new on the focus system or body.

My 5d, my mark III, my upcoming 5D2, or even my g9.

I think the 5d2 is great. So many people got what they ask for.

Ask any user of a 5d, whos had it for several years, and many if they think of it really don't have a problem with the AF.

Canon took a camera that worked, made it modern. And they gave something really important...Microlense adjustment.

A d200 compared to any of those bodies isn't a fair comparison. The D200 was introduced 3 years ago at $1699, the 5D was double that. Why are you wanting to compare an older body in the Nikon lineup to the newest in Canon's? Doesn't make sense to me.
