Honestly, I think this forum needs a little touch of DPR. I mean, I visit a local forum (in my country) with about 20 members, and it's more active than this one (on an individual section basis, e.g Canon or Nikon sections).

Feel free to go there if you feel you need a DPR experience. There is a reason that they are there and I'm not.

I find it ironic that someone who doesn't like logic wants the DPR experience. Those guys make me look gentle.

That was not the point. The idea is to have a more active forum, where people talk/share/ask.

An example.

Posted this photo in a competition I participate in about an hour ago. Do you think I think this photo is good? Hell no, it sux big time. But still posted it, to get the ball rolling and, hopefully, make people comment and get engaged.

Edit: Btw, the subject was "movement".

At some point the manufacturers will have to slow down the product cycle. Nobody will buy a $5000 DSLR if there's a newer model coming out to obsolete it at the next PMA or whatever.

I think we're getting to a point where the innovative "jumps" are starting to slow down or flatten out (if one were looking at a graph). Megapixel differences between 8 and 10 to 12 really aren't that big of a deal now. Jumps even from 16 to 21 seem to be less impressive lately, especially with the advances in digital medium format.

DR and overall IQ improvements are good but we're starting to see improvements in post processing software and techniques to make up the difference. Noise is considerably lower than its ever been in just about all manufacturers. Even the differences between full frame and crop sensors seems to be less important today. Throw images from both on the wall at 16x20 or so and the majority of people can't tell the difference. If they don't notice, why should I shell out an extra few thousand for a full frame body?

This next generation of cameras will be it for a while, I suspect. The differences from the 10D to the 20D were significant. 20D to 30D were minimal. The 30D to 40D were definite improvements but not as significant as the 10-20 jump. Similar jumps in IQ and performance on the 1D side. The 1Ds..maybe.

The 5D is a first generation camera, though. I'm really curious what they come out with on this one. For a while I wondered if they might not simply discontinue a "budget" FF body but the Nikon D3 brings it back to the forefront. The next gen will be interesting.

Plus you need about 4-5 threads per day bashing Ken Rockwell to be like DpReview. LOL

That last line was really funny.

To the OP: I really do want to know when the next 5D will come out. Keep us posted.

You make a good point. The 5D is a great camera, and will the new one, if there is a new one, have the same image quality?

I have a 5D and a MarkIII. I'm selling my MarkIII and getting another 5D. Nothing wrong with the MarkIII, just not shooting action shots as I anticipated.

So, do I get a 5D now, for a great price, or wait for the new model, that may have some more bells and whistles, but no substantially better IQ? And, will there be a run on the current 5D, if the new one turns out to have some sort of AF problem, or other problem, leaving me wishing I had gotten the original 5D?

I'm inclined to hop over to B&H, get a 5D since I know it is a camera proven to produce great looking pictures.

The next best thing is better...ONLY ... if it is really the next best thing.

The grate price is because they try to sale as many cameras they can
The new one is around the corner
It will be more money then $1,700.00
but it will be a new copy
We live in a digital world then 5d now is $1,700.00, after the new-one comes out you will see a big price drop .

The 5D will still be a proven camera after the new one comes out. Why is it everyone thinks the OLD cameras suddenly decrease in quality when the new stuff comes out? A 20D still shoots as well as it did when it was first designed. NOTHING CHANGED.

Buy or wait. Only you can decide. My personal take on it is, if you have a 5D now, why bother unless you actually need two operational bodies and prefer the 5D? Buy it after the new one is introduced and you'll save some bucks.

Overall, have you really seen backwards movement in quality? Aside from AF issues since resolved, is the 1DMkII BETTER than the MkIII?

Might be best to play it safe and see what kind of reviews come out on the 5D replacement. This camera will probably have the live-view,3inch display, the dust sensor technology,a faster burst rate, and the digic 3 processor for starters.I wouldn't buy one until the quality is proven.Seems like Canon and Nikon are in such a hurry to outdo each other that they're putting out questionable products. The 5D is still a great camera.Make sure you know what you're getting when you shell out the money.
