Default Starve a cold, and feed a Fever. L FEVER.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Disneyland.
I asked her to call the AAA agent and ask them a question.
She in turn asked me if she can tell the woman to book the trip.
I told her to go ahead (had to make sure I got the time off work).
I also told her that I needed a new lens in order to take the photos that I wanted.

Her reply?

"Ok, I am down with that."

So I just ordered my second piece of L glass.
Now I will have a fairly nice collection in my kit, by my view anyway.
50 f/1.4
24-105 f/4.0 IS L
70-200 f/2.8 IS L (just ordered)
10-22 f/3.5-4.5

Next step? Work on some lighting.
So far in that department, I have the 580EX and a 430EX.

Now I can get the 75-300 out of my bag. A decent teleconverter and I will still have a much better lens and great range to exceed that one.
I can put it on the shelf next to the old 28-105.

I have to admit that I have it, too. Its even nicer when the other half is agreeable! I've been using the "normal" USM lenses for a long time and have just purchased my first "L" (the 24-105) that I like very much. In my playing around (strictly amateur) I have found the 24-105 to be a better outdoor lens for photographing the kids. This leaves me looking for something good for indoors on my crop body - so I thinking of a 35 1.4L. Eventually, I would also like to replace my 70-210 f3.5-4.5 with 70-200 f4L or the 100-400L. On a crop body, the 400 would be really nice, but I don't know if I'd be able to hand hold it still enough...

All of my other lenses can be traded, though I think I'll keep the 50 f1.8.

I've also got the L fever after buying the 100-400L. It's much, much better than the "normal" 70-300 IS USM I had earlier. It takes some time to get used to the zoom function, and my arms start to hurt when I use it for a long time, but the IS helps a lot.
Other L lenses will follow, I'm afraid.

You must be kidding! What possible reason would there be to upgrade a 580/430 to the mk II version, other than them breaking or to waste money?

1) waterresistant, a must for *me* (580exII only)

2) silent recharge, a very welcome extra in many PJ/'wedding' situations

3) faster recharge, again very welcome in many PJ/'wedding' situations

4) faster and more secure mounting/dismounting due to new shoe/foot combination

5) controllable through the newer bodies (1D(s) III, 40D, 450D): means total control from the PC when shooting tethered.

6) more consistent (good) metering (580exII as opposed to 580ex), still not perfect, but a lot better

7) more consistent (good) whitebalance (580exII as opposed to 580ex), again not perfect, but a lot better

All 'n all enough reasons for *me* to upgrade my 580ex (and CP-E3) to a 580exII (and a CP-E4) YMMV

...€0.02...

Kindest regards!

Thanks for the info guys.

Max, I will definately consider selling the lenses for the other "throwaround" lenses as you so put them. As for upgrading the flashes, time (and money) will tell.
