Looks like you can get a 40d with a 28-135mm IS for $1109 or so at the major stores. Why not get the lens too. Or pick up the Xsi today and get the 50D technology (most of it) now. The 5Ds are really down in price now, and the 24-105mm kit makes it look like a real bargain...it is unquestionably a great camera. But, then again, you could wait for the 5D replacement.... Hope this helps to clear things up.

I don't think the Xsi can compare the quality of the full frame 5D, but as a 5D user, due to the camera don't have the weather sealing, and no self-cleaning system, the dust is the biggest issue every 5D owner faced, otherwise no such 5D replacement rumors flying around all while, no body talking about the 1D MK3 replacement, it is because every 5D user hoping the new model can off-set those drawback and they know 5D is a good quality camera that nobody want to abandon. No question 5D's quality is great for the money we paid, a great landscape camera, reasonable quality with a light body than 1Ds.

Actually, I said 50D not 5D. Which is what the OP said. Canon seems to be rolling out the new technology on the low end and then moving it up the line (with a lot of improvements). Then I changed the subject to the 5d since that seems to be the only one not on his radar

Why not? If we are talking simply IQ, why not? Full Frame, outside of noise, what other benefits can it give IQ. Crop factor is not IQ, IMO. 12.4 MP (yes, maybe noisier in higher ISO's because of the size and pixel density) 14-bit, better than the 5D in dynamic range, and Digic III.
