Default Compact Flash Card Question

Can some one tell me why when i put a Sandisk Extreme III 4.0 GB card in my 20D and i look at the number of shots left and it says 999 and i shoot 20 shots and it stills says 999?

I noticed this a few weeks ago and just thought about it.
The number of shots always stay the same.
Tried a 2GB in the 20d and works fine....

Tried the 4GB card in my 5D and it works fine (number of shots start to go down) just don't understand why it doesn't do it in the 20D.

regards,
mike allen

My thoughts are that the 20D can only display 3 digits and 999 is the max for this display. After using the camera the reading will start to count down the number of shots.

Hi mike001,

What type of file are you shooting ??

If you shoot JPG Large Fine & at ISO100, you indeed get 999 in the display, as the display can only show 3 digits: the average filesize of JPG LargeFine on a 20D is roughly ~3.5Mb, so you can shoot about 1150 images on that 4Gb card: so only after you have shot 152 images, the counter will 'start to count down' to '998' shots left...

...€0.02...

Kindest regards!
