aam1234,

Direct from the card, you can choose which 'drive' / card to use for the review, press 'FUNC.' button (more than once) on the bottom of the back to view and select this function

Looked in the manual but couldn't find the answer.

Is there a way to have a separate default Picturestyle for Raw and jpeg. Meaning, if you switch between the formats you will get your preferred Picturestyle.

Thanks

Hi aam1234,

Nope, sorry, no default PictureStyle - per - filetype.

Therefor I have a PictureStyle set, that gives an acceptable JPG without ruining the RAW (by showing 'wrong' metering results ): I shoot RAW-> CFcard +JPG Medium2Fine-> SDcard by default

on a 40D, you can specify Custom Modes, and you could set up C1 for RAW with PictureStyle A, and C2 for JPG with PictureStyle B

On the 1D(s) III, you can register all your settings and save and reload them to your card with a user given name. You could make two sets, one for RAW with PictureStyle A, and another for JPG with PictureStyle B. But in this way you cannot format (one of) your card(s), and the actual proces takes a bit of time, even if you save the function in the direct accessible 'MyMenu'.

But then, what's the point: if you use PictureStyle and it is the 'wrong set', you can 'Select All' and easily adjust them, even in the Browser Window of DPP, which you had to use anyway to take maximum advantage of PictureStyles

Kindest regards!

Hi Max. Thanks for the info.

Guess 40D's approach is more practical.

Now, CWB is another story. One needs a doctoral degree in physics to set CWB

Hi Max,

Found something that might work.

There is something called "registering basic camera setting" which, essentially, lets you quickly select "basic/major" functions quickly.

The manual doesn't specify which functions you can use there, it just gave few examples.

True, I can try it myself to see if it works or not, but thought I'd bring it to your attention if you haven't heard of it before.

Cheers

That is what I said here:

Not sure we are referring to the same thing here, Max.

I'll try a screen grab of that function since Adobe won't let me copy & paste.

Edit: Got a pic of the page but don't know how to save it as a picture in order to post it here. Btw, if the 1DIII & 1DsIII manuals are identical then it's on page 184.

They aren't and you will not succeed with that function. You will with the function I described and which explanation starts on page 182: 'Saving and Loading Camera Settings' though

The manual is a secured PDF file, you cannot copy and paste text

I don't shoot jpeg much, anyway. If ever. So not sure, come to think of it, why I bother.

Good exchange of info, though. Thanks.

AF.

As Shirley Bassey once sang, Where Do I Begin

Was at the beach house and there were few birds there, so naturally grabbed the camera and tried shooting them (with 100-400). Boy, was that a disappointing experience.

Attempt No.1: All focusing point, AI Servo, and Continuous -- No go. The cam keeps on focusing at the sea as if to tick me. Changed angle, tried peripheral focusing points. Up down, sideways. Still focusing at the sea.

Attempt No.2: Not to be outdone, I remembered C.FnIII-4-1 (Continuous AF track priority). So changed it to "focus point priority". That will do the trick, so I thought. Still no go.

Attempt No.3: The old fashion way. Single and middle point. That's a go! And most successful.

There were many combination I tried in between but don't want to bore you more than I already did

Any advice will be appreciated.

Cheers

Two more, if I may:

- When selecting all focusing points, how come the middle ones disappear

- Aren't we supposed to see which f.points are being used (in "all focusing points" mode). It only worked on stationary objects

Cheers again
