Default 14-bit depth vs. 12-bit Dynamic Range?

I was wondering if there is visible difference between the 2 more bits or 6144 levels?

I feel like it but it could just be internal justification for the $1500 I spent to get one of the first 40D's in Phoenix.

Interesting articles with some nice analysis, even though it centers around Nikon's differences instead of Canon's:

...on-screen, not that visible to me, but I do feel my (larger than A3) prints look nicer/smoother, especially when printed from 16bit AdobeRGB TIFF...

...all 'n all, *I* like my 40D/1D3 colors better than my 20D/400D colors...

...*my* €0.02...

Kindest regards!

So it isn't HDR difference, yet, huh?

No. Not even close. It doesn't really extend dynamic range that much from what I've seen. That's going to require a whole different type of sensor to get into true HDR on a single exposure.

6144 level...maybe a 16 or 24 bit? With 24-bits, it would more than double the 30D's DR.

...like brian.austin said, it takes more than color depth to increase the DR of a sensor...

for if it was thàt easy, we'd have the CD-race instead of the MP-race

...€0.02...

Kindest regards!

LOL, don't worry Max, after the general public figures out this whole MP race is crap...
