Default 300d Firmware Hack

I 've heard a great deal of conversation about the 300d firmware hack, but don't know alot about it. What are people's feelings about it? I have a 300d (obviously) and recently got the Sigma EF 500 DG Super flash for my birthday, and am particularly interested in the FEC features of the hack. Also, will my warrantee be voided by performing the install? What other features are 'unlocked' and where can I download the software? Thanks in advance.
-Justin

it will void your warranty but you can always intall back your original canon firmware anytime you want.
300D is a piece of junk without that hacked firmware for it doesn't have FEC. FEC is crucial. I can't understand why canon had to hide this function from their firmware.
thank god that hacked firware exists.

good luck

Thanks for the info. I think that I'm going to try it as I'm very interested in FEC, and somewhat interested in the ability to shoot both raw and jpeg simultaneously. If I do want to go about reverting to the canon firmware, how would I do this?

All you have to do is set all of your hacked firmware settings back to default and then flash the genuine Canon 1.1.1 firmware back to the 300D.

I had a 300D before and with the hack it became a MUCH better camera. FEC and MLU are two things I come to think of that made it more capable. When the shutter failed I had it repaired under guarantee. Before sending it in I simply reinstalled the original firmware just in case. I had no problems whatsoever doing it. I also had no qualms about my "cheating" as the firmware only makes the camera do some things it is mechanically constructed to do. Those features were omitted in the Canon firmware for marketing reasons. It won't hurt the camera one bit.

I hacked my 300D just for the FEC as I was having underexposed flash photos. The others are a big bonus. Canon should have
supplied these thru the gate.

I installed the Wasia hack on mine and have had no problems with it at all. As already said, FEC and MLU are big reasons to do it.

..that should read 'is a lot closer feature-wise to the 20D', IMHO, as, again, IMHO, it is in performance where the differences between the two become most visible, not in features...

I installed Wasia's f/w on my 300D.
If not for the hack, I would have sold the 300D long ago.
