Default PreSets

If I shoot RAW & JPG and use a custom pre-set does the custom, or indeed any pre-set affect the RAW image. I would have thought not but wondered if anyone knew for sure? I use a 40D and a couple of zooms. Sorry if this seems an obvious question with an obvious answer.

RAW is not affected by any of the camera picture settings, but the jpeg is.

Much appreciated, I guessed that would be the answer but in looking at the instructions couldn't really find anything concrete. Once again thanks.

Canon's converter will see the pre-sets but you can override them.

As tomrock said ^^^ , the picture styles and any other sharpness, contrast settings etc. only affect the jpeg files, however, if you shoot raw and use Canons DPP software it will 'carry through' all of these settings to the program, although you do have the option to change them before processing the file.
If you use any other raw converter they will not be recognised.

Does that recognise and allow you to change 'picture styles'?

Interesting...

That option doesn't appear in my version (1.7.3.1) - but that's probably because I have a 20D which doesn't support the Picture Styles.

If I use Canon's DPP I can still apply them at the processing stage even though I can't shoot with them, obviously BB Pro sees i have a 20D and just doesn't give me the option.

Correct! BBPro only gives the PicStyle options if your camera offers PicStyle, the 20D does not...

Kindest regards!
