Default 10D Clean and inspect?

I have recently purchased a 40D.....absolutely love it!
I have been shooting a 10D, and would like to keep it as a back-up. It was working fine when the 40 came along, but of course is sitting in a camera bag at this point.
My question is.....what is involved in sending the 10D in to have it cleaned, and shutter inspected? Also, does the cost warrant this, to be a back up?
Thanks in advance for your info.

...cleaning... I have used the Copperhill Cleaning method on all my DSLR's with fine results ...

the shutter doesn't 'need' inspection, it will either work or not, if not, the repair (read: replacement) costs are in the vicinity of ~$300...

...which is at or above the pure economical value of a 10D, but you already *have* it, so it could be worth more *to you*...

...involved in sending anything in is report it first to a Canon Service Center, they will then give you a Tag/Number to add on your package etc...

...hope this helps, *my* €0.02 worth...

Kindest regards!

I've just sent my 10D off for a full service, sensor clean and calibration. The cost was £110 UK.

A lot of money perhaps against the value of the camera but I consider it money well spent to guarantee a working backup camera should anything happen to your main camera during a shoot.

Thanks Max,

It's kinda funny that it takes a dude from the Netherlands to tell me about some folks who are 35 miles from me. I was reading the info where it mentioned the Ronald McDonald house in Roanoke and ding ding ding, the little dim bulb in my head went off. Copper Hill is in Floyd County, it's the county to our west.

Have Fun,
Wm.
