Default Maybe My Last Camera - Canon EOS 40D

Well, I have been lurking for a while now on this subject and been trying to decide on a new camera. I really like my Rebel 350D but I want to up grade to what might be my last camera. I am looking to buy a Canon EOS 40D and use the lenses we have now and then add lenses as we go. This way, Laycey and I can both use the extra lenses between us. I am looking forward to getting a Sigma 10-20 and a 28-135mm.

Can anyone tell me where I might get the best deal on a 40D Body or Body and 28-135mm lens? Any help will be appreciated!!

Thanks gang for any input on this! Forever grateful!

Dakota

B&H usually has good prices and you can trust them. I saw an ad the other day comparing 40D prices at several online camera stores and they were mostly within about $50 of each other.

The 40D will probably be my last camera also. I was entirely happy shooting film with my AE-1 until my company furnished me with a digital P&S camera. When I retired early I bought a Canon G3 and finally stepped up to a DSLR last September. I am an amateur/hobbiest photographer and unless some new technology comes along that makes digital obsolete I don't think I will ever need another camera. Now lenses are another thing entirely. I may not need another camera body but I can see another lens or two in the future.

I too, got the 40D right before Christmas and have been enjoying it.

I saw that Abes of Maine has the 40D with the 28-135mm plus a 2GB card for under $1400. I want to add that I didn't get my 40D from them and am not affiliated with them in any way - just want to share with a fellow Camelian in case you want to compare.

Good luck!

Great choice! I love my 40D + 28-135mm...

I just checked and for some reason, these things are selling like hotcakes. Amazon barely has any and will ship within 1-2 months...

Here are the best prices I could find:
1. $1,375 w/ free shipping from Adorama
2. $1,380 from CanogaCamera

Enjoy!

Sparky98,

Thank you for the information! Since I have started this search for a 40D I've learned a few things. I had no idea there were US versions made with Meg. bodies and others with plastic bodies. Big diff. in pricing but you are correct, I diffinately want to buy from a reputable company or person!!!!!!

Like you, I am looking forward to a 40D if and when I can find one I can afford. Now the glass is another thing all together!!. Let's see, wide angle, macro, telephoto, etc. I think I'll have to find myself a Sugar Momma!!!

If I were considering my last camera... ( and I'm not to far behind you )
I'd be thinking Full Frame.... I was hoping this PMA would produce an upgrade to the 5D... hopefully that announcement will come I guess tomorrow would be the last day for big news from companies.

For the record... I am currently shooting with a 40D... and I love it.

The 40D is an excellent camera and I've been very happy with my own purchase last fall as they started hitting stores here in Phoenix.

But I seriously doubt it will be my last.

I don't think that is correct, there is only one 40D body. Unless you mean with US warranty and the gray market ones (without warranty).

You just hit it on the head!!!! I would not buy a camera that did not come with a warranty unless it was from someone I knew personally and saw the pictures that camera had produced prior to me buying the same.!!!!

I've got to thank all of you who have responded. I think the 40D will be my last camera because of expense. I am going to have to sell a lot of flutes now to cover the cost of this new 40D. The nice thing will be that laycey and I can share the Lenses we collect now! Of course now there is the Remote Trigger, new Tripod, filters, sun shade, etc. etc. etc.

I wanted a 40D from the beginning but did not think my skill level justified that nice of a camera. Thanks to the Family here at PhotoCamel, I think I have grown into that level to justify that step and am looking forward growing some more!!!!

Now I'll be able to take the 350D in the truck so there will always be a camera at hand just in case that once in a lifetime picture shows up. Of course, that 40D will be with me as well!!!!!!!! You can sure count on that once I have it!!

Looking forward to hearing more from you all so keep it coming! God Bless and thanks again!!!

Newegg is a reputable seller. Not sure about the return policies on cameras, though.

dakota! you are goiing to love this new baby once its in your hands! i thnk the bgi sellers have been covered but if you find anyplace new online, you can always check out their rep by going to resellersraitings.com. they have comments by actualy people and you can read the good and bad that goes with each vendor. as was mentioned, the margins on these are still pretty thin, so the next best thing is looking for a place like in New York or someplace you wont have to pay tax. also consider the cost of shipping, some places will undercharge for the body, then hit you wiht a huge shipping bill. if you decide on abes of maine, (done buisness with them before and they are ok) here is a coupon code: LOYALTY10 that will save you some cash! good luck and cant wait to see your new gear!!

Hi Dakota
Why not rent the 40D for a week?
Then this way you truly know if that is the camera for you.
then you can compare your 350D vs 40D
long as you take the same photo at momentaraly apart.
then compare mind you have it at the same seting.
Then judge it from their.
Good Luck deciding your new gear.

notsotechie!

That is some great advice and I thank you. I guess I have been so enthralled with the 40D since I saw it and had it in my hands that I have over looked a basic like that!! I've read so many reviews and evaluations that I guess I became infatuated! Kinda like seeing a beautiful woman except, Laycey will let me play with the 40D!

Thanks again for the recommendation and PM.
