...well: it didn't stop working overnight, did it ??

New bodies will be announced from time to time, since you are a 'late adapter' you probably got a very decent price compared to those who were 'launching customers', so part of the 'gettin' old in the teeth' was countered by a lower price, see also the EOS 5D, new at launch (08-2005) $/€ 3250, now, nearing 30 months later (02-2008 ) it was shortly available for less than $ 1700 if you played the rebates-festival nice

...just *my* €0.02...

Kindest regards!

Probably $799 body only.
I remember the 400D came out right after I purchased the 350 so I sold the 350 and bought the 400. I'll skip this upgrade for now, but it does look nice.

Looks like a real winner here.

DPReview linkage:
Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi: Digital Photography Review
Canon EOS 450D / Rebel XSi brief hands-on: Digital Photography Review
Canon EOS 450D / Rebel XSi: what's changed: Digital Photography Review

Unfortunately, my friend who used to get every Rebel/XXXD body switched back to Pentax, so I probably won't be seeing this one any time soon.

The lcd on that thing eats the back of the camera. I wonder whether you can use the flash slot to play back DVDs?

I've used one of the predecessors of this model and, honestly, I was not that impressed.

That's what I thought too. So much so that I'm re-thinking my upgrade path. Damn Canon, thought I was set with the 5D line.

From the test Image I have seen at iso 400 it does look a bit noisy but this is an entry level dslr remember its not on par with the 40d and 5d in my opinion! also one of the test shots was taken with a 400 2.8 haha not your average kit lens

Larger viewfinder

New, larger, higher capacity battery

These are all big improvements on an already very good entry DSLR.

Owning the 400d I can confirm how noisy it is comapred to the 40D. It's incredible noisy in comparision. I would imagine with even more Meaga-pixal, it would be even harder to keep the noise down.

Best,
Jay

...the idea is, that the newer DIGIC III processor can handle a bit more noise from the new sensor with smaller pixels and more (12.2) MP, giving effectively the same noiselevels as the 10MP sensor in combination with a DIGIC II processor...

...time (& tests ) will tell...

My 400D handles ISO1600 fairly well when properly exposed. I'd expect it should be fine with a new processor and all. Can't wait to start usin my 40D though!

Well the 40d has the Digic 3 processer, and they still added some specail lens coating to the pixals on the sensor chip. Pretty much making it a differnt sensor, but based off of the 400d. That leads me to believe the digic 3 could'nt do the job on it's own But again, technogly gets better every day so.....

Best,
Jay
