describe better...

Or: depends on what you need in a camera: ultrasmall, ultralightweight: then the 450D is 'better'. Want to use SDcards? Need more than 10MP? Need contrast-detect AF while in liveview? Then pick the 450D.

Want a larger and brighter viewfinder ? A more hefty body ? Need more Speed (high FPS rate, HighISO) ? Need to adjust settings in a whimp ? Need a wireless file transport ? A more weathersealed body ? Then pick the 40D.

...just pick the one 'that-you-need', *my* €0.02 worth....

Kindest regards!

^^ that is true, Canon will market this camera as being below the 40d, most the consumers who will by the 450d In my opinion are new to Dslrs and will be impressed mainly with the 12.2 megapixels but in image quality I dont think it will match the 40d.

Max it will be interesting to see your review of this as yet too be available camera, and even more interesting to read the upcoming reviews of the production models once they are available. Now I am wondering whether I should wait for the 450D to be available or to buy a 40D or wait for the as yet to be announced But inevitable) 45D with a 12 megapixal sensor (not that I really need all those pixels, or a new body Make that Camera body)

On the link above it states:

"Additionally, the new camera is equipped with Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology, which corrects image brightness and contrast automatically. Introduced last year in the EOS 40D camera, this valuable optional feature now works in all exposure modes and utilizes Face Detection technology to prevent underexposure with backlit faces."

I have a 40D and I don't remember reading or seeing "Auto Lighting Optimizer".

Any ideas of what they may be talking about?

...I have read and re-read that statement too

I think the sentence is too far in the piece, and that that particular part 'Introduced...faces' actually belongs to the HighlightTonePriority part of the message

PR teams do mess up sometimes

And all the documentation around the 40D indeed NEVER mentioned that other feature: Auto Lighting Optimizer Technology

...*my* €0.02...

Kindest regards!

Red face Re: Canon EOS 450D / Rebel XSi

Hello Group from Sunny & Cooool So Fl.
I've been reading the thread about the 450D and having spent an inordinate amount of hours in various stores taking pics (on my 4gbCF) w both the 40d & xtI ...i MUST SAY THE 40D is awesome. Yet, even w/ the $100 markdown @ Circuit City making it $1,399--that's a lot !!
Especialy when I want to factor in an IS xx_300mm lens @$659. Hell, I'm in a recession trying to kick-start a photo biz. B-4 i read about the 450D, I was ready to get the Xti--@$650 & I'd be able to afford 2-3 pieces of great glass. Then I've read all the 40D's features the new kid is gonna have--all i can do is drool until APRIL.
$899 (XSi kit) is still $400+ better than the 40D though, I expect that 40D price to drop big time-so who knows, by April i'm hoping the bunny brings me something that will shoot weddings to sports. Thanks for the read

Everywhere you said 40D, I think you meant *400D*. The 400D is the old Rebel XTi and the 40D is the new camera released as a successor to the older 30D. The 40D is *above* the 400D and will be *above* the new 450D (XSi) which is being released.

Overall, the order is as follows:

350D (Rebel) --> 400D (Rebel XTi) --> 450D (XSi, To Be Released) --> 10D --> 20D --> 30D --> 40D --> 5D --> Mark Series

No, he meant a 40D where he said 40D. The 400 XTi was never sold anywhere near $1400.

I've been gone off the boards for awhile (life happened) and just recently started taking a photography class at my college ...it's a B&W 35mm darkroom class (love it). Next semester I'm taking the "advanced" class which is SLR 35mm and DSLR.

I was wondering why the XTi had dropped in price so much -to where I can offord it lol! As a poor college student, I cant buy the XSi but great to know it'll be out in April.
