I recently purchased a Canon 10-22 wide angle for my 20D and have been alternately alarmed and amazed at what it does. What is your impression, if you shoot with one?

It's a fantastic lens. I've heard groans and complaints regarding the price of admission. But it is worth it in my estimate.

Ok, here's my impression. It's a fun lens and Wiiiiddddddeeeee! I had some real fun on Sunday taking photos outside with kids. Here is one that I liked taken at kid level of two very active boys...
![]() I really like the very wide DOF and the fact that I don't need to use the viewfinder to get them in. I realize that one of them is only partially in the frame, but I kind of like that effect, actually. And my granddaughter visited in June. I took some inside shots of her and found it very hard to stop her 'action' with this lens without a flash, but got some neat ones. Here's one.... ...She's a cutie, isn't she...or am I biased? |

Mine don't look sharp compared to yours. I've been concerned about how sharp (or NOT sharp my lens is/isn't)...hmmmmm...maybe I'm just not holding it still enough...
Should mount it on a tripod and give it a REAL workout! Beth |

Yes, I DO shoot in raw and have toned down the sharpening. Could be you are correct. I'll check it out.
Thanks, Beth |

Here's one from today and it IS sharpened. Should it be this soft? Let me get the EXIF info for you...
![]() Taken at f16 and 1/160th second at 10mm. Should the daisies be less blurry? I was pretty close to them! And this one... ![]() This was shot at 15mm, f16 at 1/160th second....again, really close to the daisies. |

I think I did sharpen, then reformat to smaller, lower quality jpeg. Still these don't look as sharp as they should. I think I'll go again tomorrow with a tripod and try again. That should tell the story!! I wonder if I have a very soft version of this lens. I've suspected so for quite awhile.

Morgan,
I'm emailing you one of these shots in raw format. It takes forever as I have a very slow dial-up connection. I found another one that seems sharper...it was a windy day and at 1/160th of a second, I suppose things could have been in movement. The ocean was churning too. Try this one... ![]() Is that better? Nope, still looks soft!! Yikes! This is disturbing! Why would it look sharp when I look at the small jpeg version, but not in full raw? Beth |

The photo has been sending for about 30 minutes and is still only 1/2 gone! I told you it was slow!!
I'll be really curious to see what you get cause I'm having this problem despite the lens I use. I took some shots with my 28-135 IS this AM AND with my 100-400 and they ALL are soft. I'm beginning to wonder if it's my camera or PS. Or it's ME! I'm just not the rock solid camera holder that I used to be Could be!! I AM going out again tomorrow with a tripod and shutter release cord to try again to see what I can get that way. If it's still soft, ....I'll be pretty upset! |
