The lens is not easy, you must learn how to use it to get success with. On the wide end ( 24 - 30 ) it's completely unusable WIDE OPEN due to lack of sharpness and big amount of chromatic aberration, yet vignettes much. Aperture 9,5 to 16 may fix everything. Between 35 - 60 lens* is better, aperture 6,7 to 9,5 is usable. And, finally, the long end, 7o - 105, is simply stunning! Wide open to 13,5 aperture, and you got what you are dreaming about, tonality, sharpness and bokeh are overwhelming! There was my sample I use to work with, and I* wish you get the sample which is sharper on the wide end! The camera was Canon 1DS M2 full sensor.

The 24-105 f/4 has replaced my 24-70 f/2.8 for daylight use. It is a great lens thanks to the inclusion of IS. I have not found any problems with the lens. I do have a 1.6X crop camera (350D) so I am sure the lens will behave different on a full frame sensor. I use the lens mostly between f5.6 and f8 because of my preference for background blur. Can't testify for use wide open...

I highly reccomend it. Of course, you might have to wait until Canon re-releases the 24-105 after it is corrected for the known flare problem. Mine has not shown this flare, but my store (Penncamera) already notified me that there is an offer to replace the lens when the new version becomes available...
