Default My MK3 came in two weeks ago ...

but was "stolen" by another customer. My dealer got one MK3, mine actually as it's already paid for.

But while my dealer was on a day off it came in and was bought.

He's expecting one more in two weeks, I told him in light of the problems, I'd have probably given it back to him anyway. Well tomorrow is the 18th July, so we’ll see if we get a firmware and if it makes any reference to an AF read anomaly, though my gut feeling is that the issue is hardware.

Gbee,

What a strange coïncidence, boss away, $4.000+ cam arrives, and gets sold that same day... does that boss not instruct his personnel about 'bought-AND-paid-for!' orders??

...and, just curious, the RobGalbraith site informs us of the exact situations in which the problems-if-any should manifest itself.

...would you have tested your 1DIII under that conditions? And if no-problems had showed, would you still have given it back?

...and just FWIW, *my* gutfeeling says soft(firm-)ware...

but we all have to wait and see

...In the mean time, also more and more reports show up of actual users who *don't* have any problems... 't gets more and more curious...

Kindest regards!

Hardware Vs Firmware at dawn, sir, my seconds vill call on you

Well, a wee story, have 1D, do sports good! Before we knew what was wrong with the MKII, I posted somewhere that I had gone back to my 1D for sports as it was better overall AF performance, despite it's inability to get the first picture sharp in a sequence.

We waited for a firmware fix.

The MKII also suffered from the inability to stay put on a non moving target when in A1-Servo mode and had this hit and miss AF tracking, these problems are the same as on the MK3, except by reports are worse.

The MKIIn was released.

All the AF problem got a lot better, but under heavy usage they all surface periodically, I posted recently how my MKIIn had several entire sequences of women’s long jump with my the 300mm 2.8 lens, yet when one woman attempts a world record, all my shots are OOF. Same camera, lens, weather conditions and target ~ I have her making her winning jump so I used that for the record attempt pics.

I was hoping the MK3 would have ironed out these little foibles and I was looking forward to the extra sensitivity and extra low contrast bringing it on a par with the Nikon system I left. Looking at the samples it seems the MK3 has lower low contrast acquisition, ie it needs even higher contrast than before, ie again, it seems even less sensitive rather than more sensitive, which Canon state it should be.

In perspective. My D100 will focus accurately on a bland building in daylight, my MKIIn will hunt. My D100 will focus on my neighbour’s wall at midnight, my MKIIn will not ~ I was really hoping the MK3 could at least do this as well, just for the heck of it like. Mind you my D100 can’t track for nuts with it’s Cam900 prosumer AF engine, the D200 sports the Cam1,000 ‘professional’ engine which I know nothing about.
