Need input on the sigma 10-20. I know this is a canon forum, and i would have bought the 10-22, but it being a s lens is making me lean towards another brand. If the sigma
gets me results anywhere near the canon i'll opt for it instead. I trust you guys will be fair, and give sigma it's due if at all deserved. Thanks in advance. __________________

Waleed,
the Canon lens is a real beauty, but if you cannot splash out the $$$, the sigma is a good way to go. However: if you are planning to go full frame, please also consider the Sigma 12-24. On a ff it is wider than both the canon/sigma 10-22. |

![]() The Sigma ain't bad at all , just shows a little more distortion, especially at the wide end, than the Canon, is a tad less long (neglectable), AutoFocusses a little slower but like the Canon (USM) it is 'noiseless' (HSM) ....*my* €0.02... Kindest regards! Max@Home |

![]() ...in their overlapping range the 16-35 has a little less distortion, a slight edge on sharpness, corner-to-corner and a bit more noticeable edge on colour and contrast... ...AFAIK and IMHO... ...a caveat: do notice that both on a 1.6x cropped body give a not-so-wide to not-at-all-long FoV from ~27mm to ~60mm... *I* found my 17-40 never wide enough to be a true UWA zoom and never long enough to make a nice walkaround instead... ...but that's me ......€0.02 more... Before buying any lens you need to decide what angle of view you want. If you are buying a 5D, then the 17-40 or 16-35 will simulate the 10-22 but either will serve only to upgrade quality over the kit lens and not expand your range as long as you shoot a 1.6x body. Buying a 10-22, 10-20 or the one I chose (the Tokina 12-24) makes the assumption that you will either not upgrade to a 5D or that you realize that you can sell a lens when you sell the body. Enjoy whichever super wide you choose and plan to trade it in with your crop body if you ever decide to go full frame. All of these lenses hold value rather well.
I see a possible business venture selling insurance to crop body owners who are afraid to buy a good lens just because it is not full frame capable. Camera stores should be happy to give you a good trade in for these excellent lenses to get your business if you decide to buy that 5D. Many people seem to be living in fear of making this full frame move in some distant future but few actually make that move. If you really plan to upgrade, do it now and whatever EF lenses you already own become 1.6x wider in effect. If you have a 30D and a 24mm lens you can go wider by buying a 16-35 or you can just keep the 24 and use it on your new 5D. Either way you are getting a wider view. |

A bit late but still.
My personal preference is to stick with Canon lenses too. I was never afraid to invest in EF-S lenses (well, the 10-22 EF-S anyway) as I knew I could always sell it when I moved to FF (which I did a year ago). Well, nothing lasts forever anyway. Just my 2p. Cheers KH |

Even though the Sigma 10-20 is a DC lens, I had mine tested on a 1D MkIII and it appears that it vinettes(sp) at 10mm but by 11 it is fine and does fit and work, so I am saving mine for my Mk III.
