Default Is this a warranty issue?

I've tried to search, but come up still questioning.

I've had my rebel xt since june of last year, so its still under its 1 year warranty. I've been noticing more and more hot pixels lately. I counted over 32 of them the other day. I contacted canon through e-mail, and went through that process. and they tell me that it needs repair, and i have to send it off. So, then i read a little into it, and they didn't tell me whether the sensor having bad pixels, is somthing that would be covered under warranty. I e-mailed back and asked, and they told me that it isn't up to them, it is up to the service center once i send it in.

So, my question is, Does anyone know if having a lot of green, red, blue, white pixels, something that would be covered under the original 1 year warranty. I just don't want to waste the time and money of shipping it off to get fixed, if its not covered.

Thanks

I'd send it in. If they try and charge you, raise a holy ruckus. Really, if it isn't explicitly covered in the warranty papers you got, it is covered. Whoever answered your email is just passing the buck. If the service center tells you there is a charge, tell them Canon told you there wasn't.

If it really isn't covered, post that here, and at other places. It would be a bad thing to not warranty the sensor. If you scratched it with sandpaper while cleaning it, yes, it isn't covered. But hot pixels certainly ought to be.

That is exactly what i wanted to hear. Thanks a lot guys. Does anyone have experience sending it in. Do i leave a lens on it, or take everything off and just send it empty. With the body cap of course.

I wouldn't send a lens with it, or attached to it. Put the cap on the body opening, don't leave a CF card in it, and off it goes.

I don't know about Canon's facility but I'd send it sans-everything. No card, no battery, no lens, no neckstrap, nothing. Just the body. They have everything they need there. And when you get into the nuts and bolts of sending it they'll probably have specific instructions anyway. I sent a camera away with the lens and got the camera back but no lens. It had been lost. $500. It took me 3 months to straighten out.

...a REAL decent local supplier might have offered you a cam-on-loan if you had bought locally and confronted him with your mishap... that sometimes is the surplus value (that you do pay for) when buying 'local'...

...just a thought, €0.02 worth...

Some may not know this, you can go to canonusa web site, go to products, consumer, then click on support at top bar, then find schedule a repair, enter your information, when you put your serial number in, it will tell you if camera is under warranty... Not hot pixels, another problem.

Hi,
Personally I would have thought you are covered under the warranty as the sensor could be faulty.

However, I don't quite follow the above statement. Surely, if the problem is that bad and the camera is not covered by the warranty, you'll have to spend money get get it put right?

Or am I missing something?

Its bad enough to bother me. and any pics i take over 2 seconds i have to spend a little extra time getting rid of them. But, I was just kind of assuming that replacing a sensor is probably expensive enough for me to deal with the problem for a while longer, till i replace the camera with something a little better. Plus, I figure, if its under warranty, why not get it fixed. If its not, it just might be something i have to deal with for a while. kinda makes sense. I guess it would depend on how much replacing a sensor would cost.
