Default 1DS Mark III

What will it take to impress you enough to buy this next Canon flagship studio camera? How many megapixels? What specs?

Megapixels isn't a concern. It's what they do to add features. I'm sure they will add Mp but at 16.7 why the need for more. More Mp = higher noise with the same sized sensor. Now if they redesigned the sensor to make it larger than FF..... say MF size that would be interesting

If I were in the market for such a camera, I would only be interested if it provided the lowest noise performance in the world, parhaps giving ISO 12,800 usable pictures. The 1D Mark III already does this for ISO 6400 (as far as I can tell). Of course the coming 1DS Mark III will more then likely provide the many features found in the 1D Mark III sans frame rate speed, etc....As for more megapixels, 16.7 is already more then enough for most prints, but the more the better...
Until then, I'm very happy with my 5D's...

Currently the 1DMK3 camera in and by itself is not a great upgrade ~ it's a system wide change and all the benefits cannot be achieved until one has two machines, WiFi on both, the new flash guns and the new 16~35mm lens, which BTW is only the first of a new lens line ~ long promised, about five years coming in fact.

Remote operators will find this new system extremely versatile and it will encourage more adventurous shooting ~ remote from another camera, remote from the PC ~ currently only available via that short cable ~

The Camera itself has not changed much, but nonetheless significantly ~ AF sensitivity now ƒ5.6 that's a two stop increase, More cross hairs for more accuracy ~ all boils down to the black cat in the black coal bunker at midnight territory ~ finally all the best from Nikon but in a Canon package and [touch wood] not losing any of the Canon benefits ~ and the flash is something else too ....

It would need all round improvement on the 1ds2 and made a with quite a bit lighter in weight for me to justify buying a 1DS Mark 3.
Not that the 1ds 2 is not a great cam .

I am surprised that Canon did not make an upgrade like 1DMkIIn with 3" lcd panel.

Not a great upgrade? 14 bits/channel, 10 fps, 1-2 stops less noise, calibratable function for lenses, the list goes on, and long....this certainly is a great upgrade.

As for Wi-Fi...it was available for the 1DS Mark II years ago...

Anyone know of any increase in Dynamic Range with the Mark III?

No it wasn't, read the specs on the new WiFi ~ the old one was slow, short range, €1,000, and was a send only which was too complex to set where a €10 card for a PC was plug n play.

One post, on some forum, described the method of buying a small cheap laptop and converting it into a dependable WiFi transmitter for the MKIIn for under $300 all in ~

To say that Canon already had WiFi is like saying that the Marconi signal from Valentia Island is still usable radio today

Keep the sensor cleaner and the 3" display. Give me dynamic range let it weigh what it wants and for God`s sake do not let it have a pop up flash !
