Default Custom Functions

How do you have the custom functions set on your camera? Do you use the custom functions often? Which functions do you find the most useful?

The most useful for me is C.Fn-4-1 which puts focus lock on the * button. I'd have to go over the rest to see what else is set in there. The one that bugs me the most is mirror lockup. MLU should just be a switch or button on the camera body.

...most usefull: CFn 1: SET button function when shooting: Image replay

...replay under your thumb, one-hand action!

I also have these set:

CFn 5: AF-assist beam/Flash firing: Only ext. flash emits/Fires
CFn 9: Bracket sequence: -, 0, +, Auto cancel: Enable
CFn 13: AF point selection: Multi-controller direct
CFn 16: Safety shift in AV or Tv: Enable

And I also use C.Fn4=1 (Focus lock on * button), but only when needed, not 'standard'

...*my* €0.02...

Kindest regards!

I use these as well. I use the SET button also, but always forget I have that set up .

Just curious, Max: when do you/don't you use the CFN4-1?

I had it once (on a 20D) but canceled because it goes in a "+" direction only, not to the other points. Was I doing something wrong, and what's your experience with it, Max.

John,

I switch to C.Fn4=1 when I switch from single shot AF to continuous (servo) AF

In single shot AF, I use * to lock exposure if needed and use the shutterbutton to AF/AF Lock.

The * to lock exposure is such an 'old habbit' (EOS300 & EOS 33 film, G3 PowerShot) that I prefer that one 'standard' over C.Fn4=1

...*my* €0.02 worth..

Kindest regards!

I'll have to give this a shot. It sounds like it might be more comfortable when using AI Servo, which I don't use very often, but next time I'll give that a go.

The same as Max, but I do have CFn4=1 standard. Try it for a week and you won't want it any other way.

...it does go to both the '+' points and the 'x' points in-between, but you need to twiddle a little with that controller/joystickbutton, after a while, it becomes 2nd nature

The beauty of this setting (IMHO) is, that with the most-right-under-your-thumb button (next to * button) you switch (back) to auto-autofocus, and with a press on the joystickbutton you switch back to central AF point only

...€0.02...

Exactly why I tried it. May have to try it again.

Thanks
