Default Bright Pics

I went to shooting pics at a party yesterday with my Rebel XT but when I reviewed them they turned out way brighter than what they should've. I was shooting in auto with the white balance on auto also since I was going from the shade, the sunny day to night shoots. I know in auto you can't change anything but the pics should've be coming out looking 2 stops to bright. Photoshopping them darker is getting old. Also I noticed in the close up/flower mode the colors of the flowers are off. I'm starting to feel my little point and shot kodak is a better camera now.

Anyone else experience this problem?

Could you post a couple to show us? An example of the too bright as well as the off color?

It's often quite bright, too bright for me too, but not 2 stops worth. A few pic may help, keep the exif info intact too.

all these where done with the kodak

these are with the canon. the color is horrible and they look out of focus. i'm using a canon 35-135 lense with 4-5.6 and even with the canon 18-55 lense with 3.5-5.6 they come out like this.

There doesn't appear to too much wrong with the exposure. By the way, what's a lense? - surely you mean lens?

I can see some differences when compared to the Kodak shots of flowers.

It's not really a true apples-to-apples comparison, however. Your shots with the Canon tend to be more balanced between foliage and flowers whereas the same flowers on the Kodak are almost all flowers only. The white flowers above in the Kodak page show a slight green coloration on the whites, including some white balance offset (which I'd expect with that much green in the picture and no adjustments/balance).

I'd suggest getting out of the Auto settings, though. Auto is all about compromises.

You just can't rely on full auto mode for much. Canon doesn't let you alter any settings in full auto, I believe.

Nope. Not sure about the newer models but older (20D, XT, etc.) auto settings are limited to ISO400, too. Too many compromises.

Try the semi-auto modes, Av & Tv. You have much more control that way.
