Any one who is still using the 300D (or did have one)....what kind of numbers are you getting for shutter clicks before the shutter dies? Trying to figure out when to start looking for a replacement for mine....
Thanks! __________________

The 300D/350D has a very short click expectancy, 15,000 ~ 30,000. A fair percentage of the 300D camera suffer shutter failure shortly above 15,000 with some reports as low as 10,000.
The 20D about 50,000 and the 1D was and has proven to be over 100,000. Canon has improved the shutters on its new camera, the 30D & 400D now sharing the same shutter mechanism of about 75,000 and the MKIIIn a robust 300,000. |

I've never seen an official rating for 300D/350D. I've heard unofficial mentions of 30,000 and 40,000. I've reached over 35,000 in about 18 months with my 350D and it's still working fine.

Actually there is confusion over this.
My most recent info and verified by EOS Magazine was the 30D was 75,000 rating. A Canon technical release says the 400D and the 30D have the same shutter, again 75,000 cycles. However, the Eos Magazine, January/March 2007 states that the 350D and 400D have the same shutter ~ 30,000 cycles. I’m beginning to suspect that the various reports are distinguishing between component parts of the whole shutter assembly. For instance some shutters used by both Nikon and Canon where mounted in plastic with a low cycle rating but the same shutters mounted in metal had a higher cycle rating. Therefore, I suspect that shutter and shutter assembly life cycles are different but are in fact being reported or translated inaccurately. It is quite possible that the 30D, 350D & 400D share the same shutter but not the same shutter assembly. |

It would be nice to just get a new camera, and then later repair the 300d for a backup.
