I just bought a used 20d and there was no software included. Do I need the programs that came with it? Generally I don't use the manufacturers software. I just download using Windows Explorer and then do my PP work with Photoshop. If I do need their software then where can I get it? All I can find on Canon's site are updates to their software.

That's because Canon requires the original disk to be installed, and then updated. You'll need it to change the camera owner name, but otherwise, Photoshop will take the place of the rest.

Hi atomic,
Quote:
and *I* would feel 'cheated out' if my 2nd hand camera came without the software, IMHO it should be part of the deal and be handed over......and you now do miss the oportunity to do tethered shooting (straight to a PC or Laptop), where you can even control the camera-settings with the software... or change Owners's name in camera (and in all your EXIF tags...) those software-options also came in the original box... ...so maybe you have a friend around with *any* Canon DSLR and he will let you borrow his CD, so that you can install the 'basic versions' and then you can download the upgrades and install them... ?? ...*my* €0.02 worth... Kindest regards! Max@Home |

Click the link below to download DPP 1.0
I think it installs with no other Canon software needed. Then you can update from there, since it will see DPP 1.0 on your system.... http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/sdl/data/dpp100-e.exe |

Yep, I tried Pickels suggestion. It allowed me to download DPP but nothing else. I was able to get the drivers from Canon's site. But I still don't have the Remote Camera application. Is the software CD I need spectific to my camera or do they make one disc and it works on all the DSLRs that Canon makes?

I have finally given up on the idea of downloading the software from the Interenet. Obviously Canon doesn't want that to happen so they can sell you the software for $30. I was able to download Zoombrowser, DPP and a few other programs. However there seems to be an issue with the proper order to install the programs. I got some suggestions from other Canon forums but I had no luck.
I went back to the dealer I bought the camera from and tomorrow he will have a copy of the software disc that I can copy. Then I am going to try to figure out if it is possible to download and install the software off the Internet. |

This is exactly what I have done with every other camera I have ever owned. However...... I am really interested in trying out the remote caputure function. I don't know if I will ever need it but it is nice to know I have it if I should ever want to use it. And second..... I want to access the EXIF data so I can put my email address in the metadata tag in case my camera is ever lost or stolen then I might stand a 1% chance of getting it back. And third... When I go to sell the camera it will be a lot easier to sell if I have the software. |
