Just checked. Available for pre-order.
On the AF thing. I can't tell the difference between AF on my T1i and my 60D; I mostly use center-point only. My Elan 7NE (film) is noticeably faster than either of them with all my EF glass. I don't understand that one bit. I would love to put my lenses on a 5D3 to try them out. Anyone...?...? |

I have 7d. And thet 1dx has 61 af points vs 19 on the 7d. I can tell you. HUGE difference on AF performance. I had a T1i. If you want or have the budget I would go for 1dx.

Yes, on both counts. Better as is tracking (the depth it focuses depends on calibration, but assuming they are both calibrated equally) the AF tracking on 1 series is more accurate. Faster just because it's got more processing power to figure out where the lens should focus.

Hello:
I have this camera and to put it mildly; it is the best DSLR ever made. Sorry you folks that like Nikon, it is just a fact. I would say almost all my friends have Nikon, and even my photography business partner does. However; even he will admit that this camera is "the bomb". I have had digital cameras almost since there WERE commercially available ones. Everything from the original Rebel, to a 20D, 40D, 50D, 1Dmkii, 1Dmkiii and even a short time with the 7D and the 5Dmkiii. None of these is even close in any way. The 5D came closed in IQ, but for a feature set, build quality and, well everything else, the 1D is the way to go. The biggest reason I returned the 5D and bought this was that this camera can "spot meter" the exact focus point you want vs. just the center point. (In fairness to Nikon, this is something that almost ALL their cameras do, but Canon reserves it for only the Pro Body cameras. COME ON CANON!). Pro: Remarkable ISO performance, Speed, and functionality. The image quality (IQ) is some of the best I have ever had also. The fact that is built like a battleship and you could probably hammer in nails with it is a huge plus also. I do not fear taking this camera into ANY shooting situation (cold, hot, wet, dusty, etc.). Con: Price. If you can get past this, go out and buy it! This is just a little review, but when I have more time I am going to A: find the correct area to post a review here and B: write a more thorough one as well as post some pictures. Thanks, Andy |

"The part that I absolutely HATE about the 1DX focusing versus the Mark IV is the elimination of the constant red illumination of the focus point. Let me explain. On the Mark IV even when you have not depressed the shutter or back focus button the focus points remains illuminated red. On the 1DX (and 5DIII too) unless you have pressed either focus button the focus point remains black. In the heat of the moment (where I am always at!) it's almost impossible to know where your focus point is at the time before pressing the shutter halfway or the back focus button. I have missed several shots because of this. Apparently Canon is working on a 'fix' but it's not as easy as it sounds. Apparently the exposure will change based upon the red illumination points and vary again depending on where that point is in the viewfinder." Because this has bothered so many, I would be reluctant to hand over my cash for this camera. Also, I've heard some complain that pictures out of the camera are on the soft side. Would any of you 1DX owners be so kind as to share some sample images? PhotoCamel has a files section where you can upload samples so that members can download them. Just go there, click Add Entry, and the rest is pretty clear. Thanks! __________________
