Interesting, but for a real comparison you should have used identical apertures and shutter speeds. What I do see is this:
The bokeh of the zoom looks much more pleasing. There is a color shift to blue with the 50mm lens. |

The colors in these JPG images are now very close to each other. There is a small difference in the images of the brick wall but that may be due to a small exposure difference.
You can use the Color Picker tool in Photoshop to compare the images. I recommend setting the Sample Size to 101x101 pixels. To compare image quality you should do that on the original RAW files at 1:1 magnification. Check the center, midway to the corners, and close to the corners. |

...and there is (only) 6 in the EF-S 18-200IS too ![]() The difference: in the 50mmF2.5 Macro they are 'normal' old fashioned 'square' blades, in the EF-S 18-200IS they are 'normal' new style 'rounded' blades, the difference is very clearly visible in the bokeh of the first set of images supplied ![]() ...€0.02... The trivia question was clearly asked in irony because it's so obvious, but I think it's kind of cool. I don't find the 50mm bokeh harsh, but I do find the rounded blades more pleasing. Still, the hexagonal shapes are interesting.
