Blows the Nikon V1 out of the water. Bigger sensor, and such.

me too, but that would make it a lot bulkier, heavier and far more expensive.

and the same goes for 24mm wideangle, nice to have, but if that would make it bulkier, heavier and more expensive...

IMO this lens' range and F-values are very acceptable, certainly compared to the MIL competition, that only offers 28-85mm equivalent F3.5-F5.6 'kit zoom lenses', 'faster glass' on those cameras means primes, which make the camera less versatile.

Again, IMO, this camera has a lot more flexibility to offer than f.e. the FUJI X100 with it's 35mm equivalent F2.0 lens (currently the only other compoact with APS-C sensor and fixed - non-interchangeable - lens) due to both it's zoom and it's 'G-trademark' - but a few - vari-angle LCD.

VERY curious to see the IQ this one will put out, if that is as good as promised, my G12 will not be mine much longer...

...€0.02...

Kindest regards!

Wow... some pretty awesome specs. I have been a Powershot G series fan for some time - starting with a G5, G9 and G12. Will need to seriously look at this one. The rumored $800 price is a bit steep, IMHO. TFS.

Not necessarily, these are very different cameras aimed at very different audiences IMO, with a totally different 'mindset' of the makers.

Nikon might/could easily do a similar thing with it's also-excellent P7100 (fit an APS-C sensor and add a quality fixed zoomlens) , just for-now they have chosen another path.

I am excited, this along with the announcement of the Fuji X-Pro1, I can't wait to see the comparisons, as I really need a better carry-around.

FWIW re: carry-around: the Fuji X-Pro 1 looks exciting too, but is a lot larger and heavier (size and weight comparable to a Leica M9 )

That oversized lens on that body looks mean!
