Default New 24-105 f4 L

I think I got a good one. FedEx just delivered it from B&H. I went out and took a walk around the block just to shoot something. This is just a .jpg, I didn't have time to do a full raw conversion test. But just from this, I think I'm gonna be happy.

Hi Chicagoeye,

...lens looks good to me, for whatever that's worth...

Question: did you buy this lens to *add to* or to replace your 17-85IS? ...just curious...

My kindest regards,

Max@Home

Replace. A friend bought a 300D with the small kit lens and he is going to buy my 17-85. I was strongly looking at the 17-55 2.8, but for traveling, I usually find I need a bit more reach than that. I also think I'll eventually (1-2 yrs, maybe) go FF, so didn't want to invest any more in EF-S, if possible.

Chicagoeye,

Thanks for replying, will you not miss the wide-angle? 24mm is 'only' (x1.6 =) 38mm FoV

I recently exchanged a 17-40F4L for the 17-55F2.8IS, which is now my 'standardlens', leaving the 24-70L almost unused...

or.... do you use the Pro1 for WA? (what I did before I got the 17-40 )

...again, just curious...

Kindest regards!

I think I will eventually need to add to the arsenal with something wider. My big test will be my upcoming vacation to Kaui in a week. I plan to bring the 17-85 anyway (and the Pro1!), but I want to use the 24-105 as primary cuz' it's just so tasty. I reviewed my history of shots and it seemed I didn't go for the super wide as often as I thought. Time (and budget) will tell when I add the 17-40. More likely to go FF and then have the 24mm that exceeds what my 17-85 does on the wide end (27mm) on my 20D.
