Does Canon include the Rebel dSLRs in that category?

"Prosumer" is a really condescending designation. Entry level professional equipment deserves a better classification, and advanced, non SLR type cameras need something more distinguished than "point and shoot." My favorite is when they call a camera an "advanced point and shoot." HUH?

Agree with John. The terms Prosumer and P&S always sounded rude and condescending. Unfortunately there is no alternative. How about we invent one, like ... non-dSLRs.

Whether Prosumer is rude or condescending or whatever, most people know what cameras it refers to. Even you that don't like the term.

Just to clarify, I believe what Canon means, is that any one of their cameras that does NOT have an interchangable lens, will not have RAW. For all you verbal nit-pickers out there, just because you could send your G6 or SD700 or whatever back to Canon, and Canon could replace the lens under warranty, does NOT make it "interchangeable".

Now, you can start your campaign here, at DPR, FM, Steve's and all the other places about what we should call each camera category, so they don't feel rude and condescending... Let us know where to vote

Prosumer is an interesting word. I'm not sure when the first instance of its use happened, but it is well crafted from a PR standpoint, imho. In the professional audio world that I live in and make my real living, there are three tiers, Professional, Semi-pro, and consumer. The semi-pro word is more condescending as "semi" means "less" giving a feeling of "less professional". Compare that to prosumer where the "pro" makes the word "more". It gives the newby buyer the feeling he's moving UP rather than down. Love it or hate it, that term will stick.

Getting back to the G7, there looks to be an awful lot that I like about this camera. Look at that sexy ISO knob! I could get over the no raw mode. Looks like the perfect streetshooter camera.

Yeah, especially the image stabilization.* My first "real" digicam was a G5 and that took great photos and was very cofortable in the hand.* This G7 looks to be similar form.* Another intersting tidbit is the switch to SD from CF.* Re: ISO knob - How long til we can get one on a real Canon DSLR?* Please, pwetty-puhleeze? I'll withold comments on ISO1600 until I see actual samples.* High ISO was one downfall of the G5 and most teeny-sensor cameras.
